The struggle for the recognition, respect and promotion of Human Rights has been the focus of my lifetime. This constant preoccupation led me, during my mandate as Secretary General of the United Nations, to preside over the World Conference on Human Rights which took place in Vienna in June 1993. It is from this same perspective that I endeavour to accomplish my work today in my capacity as President of the Egyptian Human Rights Council. Unfortunately, it is in Africa that Human Rights are most often violated amidst the indifference of the international community. The genocides in Rwanda as well as in the Darfur are sad examples which bring shame to all Human Rights militants. This is why this book Armatan is a major contribution seeking to sensitize international public opinion, non governmental organizations as well as the United Nations to the violation of Human Rights in Africa. The photos in this book illustrate very well the reality in Africa and the tragedies of this continent which has been a victim of slavery, colonization, discrimination and exploitation of the rich nations of the world. We should be grateful to the authors of this Book for their contribution which reminds us that the continent having suffered most from Human Rights violations is Africa.
